The 2018 Xiamen International Youth Football Invitational came to an end on August 1 as the host Xiamen No. 2 High School defeated the Qingdao No. 66 High School Football Team 3:0, to claim the title of the competition this year.
The final attracted a great number of spectators on the premises as well as online. Among them, a group of young reporters from xmenglish.cn, the city’s only official English-language portal.
Fifteen young reporters made their way to the Xiamen No.2 High School Wuyuanwan Campus to watch the final and cover the event.
Most of them were among the prize winners of the "2018 Young Star Ambassadors" Xiamen Youth English Proficiency Competition. They are confident and speak good English.
At the campus they interviewed coaches and players from Germany, Australia and South Korea. They also interviewed the medical staff, volunteers, spectators, and even the champions.
Four young reporters from Xiamen Wuyuan Experimental School conducted an exclusive interview with the Sunshine Coast football team from Australia. They were able to not only write a comprehensive article but also produce a short news video.
Jenny Weng, a ten-year-old girl from Xiamen Jiabin Primary School, looked like a professional reporter. She is polite and careful, and every time when she finished an interview, she would say “thank you” first before asking the interviewees to sign their names.
Jenny’s mother said she was trained as a young reporter at her school and that she enjoys her role thoroughly.
It is said that young reporters who did a great job this time would receive a free ticket for an art performance on Thursday, which is co-hosted by Xiamen's Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office, the Xiamen Friendship Association and the Education Bureau of Xiamen, and the Xiamen-Sasebo Youth Friendly Communications
